A little disorienting to learn my parents do the “British” thing of making tea with water heated in a kettle and thinking microwaving it is weird and degraded
They’re right. Why the fuck would you boil water in the microwave?
Found the Brit
Your parents are right, microwaving water is deranged, literally only Americans do it.
explain to an american who doesn’t drink tea: literally why would this matter? you just need the water to be hot right? why does it matter how you do it?
I have noticed it’s worse using the microwave and I think it’s because of the imprecision (you just have to guess when it’s near boiling) and that you dunk the tea bag into the microwaved mug versus pouring the hot water over the tea bag
Dunking vs pouring is at least theoretically a thing, but people keep hitting on this “you don’t know exactly when it’s boiling” point. If you heat water past boiling, it doesn’t become superhot, it boils off, right?
