God, I remember 2015 before Donald Trump came down that escalator, when it was looking like the Republicans had no one who could make the pivot they needed to and the alternative was Hillary, when it looked like we were set for a slow, static, self-satisfied “sick man” decline. Not clear in what direction yet, but we sure dodged the hell out of that bullet.
