so like, does e.g. france have plans drawn up for a potential US invasion? obviously there’s not going to be a US invasion of france, it’s just the kind of thing you’d expect every country to have, ya know? like just in case. but surely the US has (officially or unofficially) access to basically all french intelligence, so what would be the point? they’re not gonna keep it secret from us. I’ve been thinking about this for an hour.
I’ve often wondered if Mexico has any contingency plans or specific training for a US invasion. I’m sure there’s gotta be stuff laying around from like the 1920s back when the last US invasion was recent, and it would’ve seemed like something really important to draw up. I wonder when was the last time those plans were ever updated. Do they call for trench warfare and not really address aerial bombardment at all because they’re that old?
I think the French plan for war with America is something along the lines of
“Making the most pessimistic assumptions, the French nuclear
bombersmissiles could destroy tenRussianAmerican cities; and France is not a prize worthy of tenRussianAmerican cities”Ok yeah, totally forgot France was a nuclear power (lmao) so it’s probably a bad example. I’m basically thinking of US allies with reasonably large conventional militaries but no actually leverage (e.g. nukes) to use against a major global power. Germany maybe. The Mexico case is interesting but significantly different I think.
I wonder sometimes what would happen if the United States were to invade any NATO member, assuming NATO were still legally in existence at the time. Presumably the U.S. would be effectively withdrawing from the alliance by initiating the attack; would the other members then honor their obligation to act to defend the attacked country?
would the other members then honor their obligation to act to defend the attacked country?
no, they would not.
Presumably, the alliance structures on each side both claim continuity with NATO
