Seeing things coming around tumblr complaining about people who went to their college health center feeling depressed and found themselves being forcibly institutionalized as suicidal (ironically, the same time I see RGR explicitly trying and failing to do the reverse).

And it’s like - you realize this is the result of successful torts against colleges from the surviving families of students who suicided while enrolled, and got rewarded millions of dollars in response on the premise that the institutions should have somehow prevented this.

And that in turn is a reflection of a corrupt society that looks at a mother crying over the death of her child and thinks “that is a thing to be comforted and made whole” instead of “how vile and pathetic this monster is, to firstly form permanent attachments to mortal and thus impermanent things, and secondly to act as if the world should overlook and reward their failure.” Or at least a society that somehow views death (which is not a positive or negative but the equals sign) as worse than an afternoon’s captivity.

Pain and suffering is the responsibility of the sufferer - that’s what individual responsibility means. People confuse that with causation. If someone inflicts pain upon you, who caused the pain yes them but whose pain is it? Yours.

That’s why the tea partiers are correct in saying that a public stance of indifference to when and what people die of is essential to freedom and an attempt to enlist the social collectivity to postpone (you can never save anyone from death, merely change the details) the deaths of the vulnerable are grave trespasses against said.

This is why I’m so fond of Westboro Baptist Church - that they are the most prominent force in our culture enforcing the correct doctrine that mourners are due no respect or deference, but rather scorn.

Destroy the institution of the family and the vile indulgence of corpse-lovers; embrace the glory of freedom and death!
