I mean like if you go into a prison and you’re like “this has a negative effect on these prisoners!” like, okay?
I mean, maybe some Quakers once hoped penitentiaries would promote like, penance, in a soul-elevating way, or maybe reformatories causing reform, but other than that the idea has always been that the benefits of having prisons in society accrued to people not in prison
