i think probably urban highways are bad for like, human flourishing, because most people dont like them, and theyre especially a low value use of coastal areas, but *i* like them, so it irritates me when people shit on them. what if you could go FAST in a CITY?! is this not obviously great to everyone else

that’s not *you* going fast, thats a machine you happen to be inside going fast. very different creature

And a car isn’t a machine you happen to be inside?

a car is an extension of yourself, its an expression of your will, it has fucking haptic feedback, when youre driving fast and paying attention and in the zone a car is a body! (altho…extending this capability would very cool. car where you can feel the wind on your skin, the balance of forces, the distance to every object around you…)

if you want to go fast in cities, you’ll honestly have better luck with like a bullet train or something, even if you find that an inferior quality of experience. urban highways are really prone to congestion! Of course it’s super convenient in off-peak periods, but like. statistically the great majority of trips on the highway are in peak periods, which are terrible

some other less-viable alternatives would include “a recreational racetrack in the city” and “a train but you can sit on the outside if you want, and your seat has a spring under it so it wobbles when you turn”

Using the LA freeway system at like 11PM when it was finally under capacity was amazing, you could get anywhere in 25 minutes max
