The plot points were &lsquo;90s contemporary future themed enough \u2013 that was the decade where with the <a href=\"https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0120669/\" target=\"_blank\">Fear and Loathing movie</a> we rediscovered Hunter S. Thompson as a hero \u2013 but the <i>themes</i> themselves weren&rsquo;t particularly '90s. What was The Smiler trying to do that Spider was trying to thwart? Did it have anything interesting to say about neoliberalism, or Clintonian realignment, or anything?</p>"}
