When I did it the cockpit training sequence was something like</p><ul><li>flying straight</li><li>making turns</li><li>changing altitude</li><li>slow flight</li><li>taking off</li><li>landing approach (incl. radio comms)</li><li>landing</li><li>landing in crosswind</li><li>stall recovery</li><li>landing on grass</li><li>landing on uneven surfaces</li><li>navigation*</li><li>IFR (&ldquo;Instrument Flight Rules&rdquo;), flying with no visuals in the dark</li><li>contingency planning (there&rsquo;s a <b>lot</b>)</li></ul><p>*back then (the early 90s) this involved paper maps and chaining radio beacons together but GPS was just coming in, dunno what that&rsquo;s like now.
