So, I think the culture’s pretty safe now. Probably going to snd up seeing some improvements you couldn’t get by pushing for by having idiots flail around against and discrediting their position.

But I see these things pretty far put, the routing and mopping up will take a while and I’m not in love with the culture’s prospects in the meantime. Honestly I’m treating it as a cognate of the ‘80s.

So to figure where to go from now I’m looking back, what “should” I have got in on in the 80s? The start of brownstone Brooklyn? For me it would probably be Japan stuff but I don’t know I’d be in a place to if it their 80s come-up already happened.

Get in on\u2026 Roxy Music? “College rock”? Hardcore punk? Goth? Did anyone but the bands ever get anything from being an 80s goth? I guess Anne Rice.

Be a game programmer in the Garriott, Molyneux, Wright era? Get a jump on the 90s Pacific Northwest TTRPG boom?

Time the market for car alarms and Clubs?

Get into some luxury goods market and win the Wall Street gold rush by selling pickaxes to stockbrokers?

So even if I had negative associations with the 80s before they were “bad taste” and “urban danger”, not “boring”, but what did everybody do in the decade before Friends? Besides cocaine.
