That it’s no longer a straight-line projection out from the trends of my younger life is an important part of it, yes, but also an understanding that they have in no sense been superseded by more recent trends that will instead become permanent, that these shifts are actually quite typical for the cyclical nature of cultural history I care about, and the cycle is actually coming back around to the point where I first became aware of the world. Such that I can apply not only learned historical knowledge but firsthand experience in predicting and accordingly positioning for further shifts – I’ve been thinking of all the big-name “Sixties” figures who were not themselves Baby Boomers, but carried ideas and traditions across the Fifties to them.
