When we’re up to it again, post about how that Dave Chappelle “niggers vs. black people” bit basically put the line at black trash vs. hostile black trash and he stopped doing it when his white audience was taking it as black trash vs. black people in general

Like, “is kinda involved in illegal intoxicant enterprises and will totally drive drunk and impregnate your niece but is basically a good guy” was what most of the Confederate flag in the back window guys meant, but I respect them not trusting that

It’s been totally forgotten how the n-word was a class label, dividing things inside the black communities of the South. You could be a lower/middle class POC working retail or at some state institution (the highest plateau of which, besides minister, was teacher at the all black school), or you could live on the other side of the tracks, in and out of jail, home all day with at most itinerant work, and very involved in disorganized crime. Every POC on the “right” side of the tracks was terrified of that fate more than anything, which was in the power of white people to bestow - either with a single night in jail losing you your job, or even the power of this single slur to drop them into the perception of a lower class.

Weird how the Portland experience was you could be a pillar of the black community and fuck as many teenagers as you want, someone has to be pillar of the black community
