Why would they buy all the live ammunition? Were they unloading it to make blank rounds? Is that more cost effective than just hiring a company that specializes is blank firing weapons to work some magic?

5.7 ammo is extremely fucking weird and no third-party brass casings exist. They also have a sort of thin film polymer on the surface to assist extraction, because the P90 is actually direct blowback operated for some fucking reason.

So yes, physically pulling the projectiles out of live rounds really was the most effective way to make blank ammo.

Yeah it was like “are you looking to completely replace your second-line personal firepower systems for the tense military challenges of the 1990s with untested tech from Belgium?” And that was like, no one.

To be completely fair, though, the USSR fell apart while this and the MP7 were being worked on, so the intended use for them (\u201dthe Soviets are going to drop paratroopers and special forces with body armor into your backline\u201d) evaporated.
