Literally I don’t understand why the Democrats didn’t even run a backup candidate just in case Newsom does get recalled….like rn it’s literally all republicans so if he gets recalled the vote will basically be “chose the least crazy/bigoted/anti mask/vaccine republicans on the ballot” which is none of them lol

Idk I feel like the Democrats are too easy to beat like they just do dumb shit all the time that endangers what little power they actually have

The California Democratic Party is a delicately balanced combination of demographic and geographic interests; successions are planned ahead of time through horse-trading and ticket-balancing. Using an unscheduled election to short the reigning faction for the sake of throwing a free-for-all faction fight is not something I’m sure the party would survive intact.

I have a college buddy who did state politics for Google, he explains that cabinet positions are an alternate prize – that’s what Hilda Solis at Labor under Obama was, a payoff to Gil Cedillo’s Latino Caucus machine – but the 2016 plan was for several figures to graduate to Hillary’s cabinet. This is also, I suspect, why their senators remain in office, because apres them comes the deluge.
