the Yahoo Serious movie Young Einstein (“splitting the beer atom”) almost pushed Greg Egan to renounce his Australian citizenship [citation needed]; in the end he contented himself with having one of his characters bitterly complain about it instead as an example of everything wrong with Australia (along with John Howard’s treatment of Afghan asylum seekers).
arguably you could see this as yet another example of the Cultural Cringe: a performer makes three relatively popular movies but they bomb overseas and therefore must be worthless, on the other hand yes these movies really are terrible.
