On the other hand, basically ALL anime has adopted some of it's characteristics, and there is 2-3x the amount of anime being made nowadays. So one could argue that while it no longer has as much distinct identity, it is more culturally prevalent.

I mean how does this role compare to the chibi superdeformed aesthetic in the 90s?
