Friendly reminder as a kid I slept by preference on a mattress on the floor for a decade even though I had a three-generation bed, and only sleep this far off the floor now in a live-edge bedframe

with a set of real European slats that do what IKEA slats pretend to and take the place of a box spring

Sometimes when I was a kid I would put my blankets on the (carpeted) floor and sleep there. To this day I don’t mind sleeping on the ground all that much.

I used to take my bedding out into the hall at the top of the stairs and sleep and now I identify with my parents and try to figure what was up with that but as far as I can tell it was just a thing
