As an occasional reminder, I believe the resolution of the Fermi Paradox is that civilizations do not make it that far off-planet as species, and that human civilization’s destiny is to evolve into an economy and from there into pure math, which means that any effort to preserve the species by hobbling the economy represents an existential threat
