King James Version loyalty is kind of weird because like, keeping the Bible in an older and supposedly purer but difficult to comprehend language is exactly what Protestantism isn’t about

sure the kjv is more difficult to comprehend, but it is expected that everyone learns it and its strange vocabulary – because it is not so strange at all really. it is a good standard for literature and all the great inheritance of the church uses it.

being able to approach god through his sacred, and therefore strange, word is something that priests do, which is why you tag it as being Catholic because they are the priest guys. but protestants are not against priesthood – they are against priestcraft. priesthood becomes priestcraft when priesthood becomes restricted to an elite to whom everyone must submit.

using the kjv spreads the priesthood out among everyone. it is a little difficult to feel like a priest approaching the mystery when reading some slick 20th century translation.

the mormons are the extreme example of this tendency because as well as the kjv they also have the book of mormon. it is not coincidental that they retain the word and concept of “priestcraft” v “priesthood” stronger than protestants.

I was raised Catholic, which after Vatican II means you were read the highlights of the whole Bible over 3 years assuming you were there every week, and it was a little weird to cross-reference that with all the famous lines
