You ever think about how the point of that “render unto God what is God’s and render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s” bit was some Roman inspectors tried to get Jesus to say something they could take him in for tax resistance over and instead he was so clever he made his point in their face that they could only charge him for over interpretations where they looked wrong or silly?
The Biblical accounts of that incident (Matthew 22:15-22, Mark 12:13-17, Luke 20:20-26) say or imply that the people questioning Jesus were Pharisees and other Hellenized Jews who were trying to get him to say something that endorsed tax resistance, rather than the Romans themselves.
