Oh and like all the “farmer’s daughter” jokes that start from the premise of a traveler sleeping the night in a farmer’s barn come from here (and that given how American farmland tended to settle on a homestead and not village basis the inhabitants would also likely not see anyone unrelated often* and under those situations women are often very giving to outsiders, cf.
