Just saw something like “Jessica Alba is an American actress and businesswoman” and it’s like, you wouldn’t describe a guy who fixes pipes and took the money from that to buy a house as “a plumber and real estate investor”, would you?
I mean, that description might be where I’d put Paris Hilton, Jessica Simpson, and possibly Eva Longoria. The business interests are what they very much do now ever since they were extremely relevant when I was a child.
Paris Hilton absolutely. She came from a clan of capitalwielders (weird parallel of the day: just like Osama bin Laden) and I’d argue her course as a celebrity was something she was doing as a businesswoman.
Jessica Alba nominally runs Honest Company, although my understanding is that the actual founder is someone else who has a history of finding celebrities to be the public founders of his work.
I once heard the inventors of the George Foreman Grill talk about how they brought George Foreman on (he wasn’t the first celebrity they reached out to, they liked his commercials for the Meineke muffler shop chain)
And how much work he put into making it happen, any random trade show or ass-nowhere drive-time radio host would be willing to have a celebrity make an appearance and pitch something a bit, and he did that constantly all over the country for years before it caught.
