I wonder whether it would actually be stronger to say:
We have endowed ourselves with certain unalienable rights. And we commit to defending these rights.
It’s truer, and it makes clear that it’s only through our collective will that these rights continue to exist.
Seems good except why not just say “we will defend these rights”. If someone doesn’t believe you about that they won’t believe you when you say “we commit to defending these rights” either
