I\u2019m thinking a very badly timed attack on the Soviets could have led to losing some/all of Manchuria, killing the Army\u2019s prestige and appearing them to at least keep Korea and Taiwan, if they retrench and concentrate on goals that are achievable as opposed to insane. Not that I\u2019m sure even Korea is actually possible mind. Taiwan clearly is though. They\u2019d be as foreign to the \u201creal\u201d Japanese as the Welsh are to the English by now.</p></div>\n<p>Might even get classed as <a href=\"https://href.li/?https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryukyuan_people\" target=\"_blank\">Ryukyuans</a>, the group the Yamato mostly think of as Welsh to their English already</p>"}
