I was a big Garbage fan as a teen, had all their b-sides and read all their interviews, as the result of which I kind of have a secondhand sense of 70s-80s rock as processed by Butch Vig and Shirley Manson, which is honestly kinda great.

Like in an era when the MTV generation was left with an impression of the 80s as like, Bon Jovi/GNR/Madonna and then “alternative” came out of nowhere in like Seattle and you couldn’t even listen to music online yet they provided an alternate (and looking back quite British) lineage, like “Roxy Music, The Clash, Patti Smith, Big Star, all the New Romantics, Siouxie Sioux, Chrissie Hynde, Cocteau Twins”
