It’s surprising to go back to older movies and see how commonly “he’s GAY” was a punchline. And that was it, that was the joke, “hey that dude’s queer!”, 100% of the laugh line right there. This hung on well into the 1990s.

Three’s Company and its combination of “obviously the subtext of all male-female interaction is that they could fuck each other” and broad comical like, gay drag, is particularly nuts to watch today
