Through the 20th century pop-Freudianism considered excessive attachment to mother effeminizing and corrupting \u2013 this was a subject of Wylie’s anti-“megaloid momworship” Generation of Vipers in ‘43, and the subtext of both Psycho and The Manchurian Candidate. I’m not sure that fits, though.
