According to Epiphanius, certain women in then-largely-pagan Arabia syncretized indigenous beliefs with the worship of Mary, and offered little cakes or bread-rolls. These cakes were called collyris (Greek: \u03ba\u03bf\u03bb\u03bb\u03c5\u03c1\u03b9\u03c2), and are the source of the name Collyridians.

Mary-as-God is such an obvious inference I\u2019m surprised it\u2019s not more common.

I thought Mary as Eve worked better \u2013 God’s allowing the crucifixion not only as a twist on Abraham and Isaac but his doing it in the face of her lamentations as a redeeming of the Fall coming from Adam’s following Eve’s womanly direction
