for the record (and in fairness I remember reading a Popular Mechanics article about this in 1998 or 1999) we have constantly been inventing flying cars ever since we were inventing cars, and the issues are there is less in common with the heavy power transmission system than you realize and so every flying car is far worse as a plane or car than any other AND they cost far more than one of each AND there was never even a use-case that they served (the best proposal I saw was for 50s salesmen that could travel to a remote area and go door to door there)
