This is relevant to fencing too !
The the person on the right’s stance is a bit too big for fencing but his weight is relatively evenly distributed and he can change directions and momentum anytime. Meanwhile the boxer on the left is leaning forward and very vulnerable to a riposte.
In MMA, by contrast, he’d be opening himself up to a devastating left kick to the nuts
Doesn’t MMA still have a no-nut-shots rule?
I mean maybe UFC does, in the dojo we wore cups and took up a stance less square than boxing
well upon reflection we might have held back from courtesy, we def. learned knee and elbow strikes
(which I even used in the bar fight that got me BJJ-promoted to blue belt before I left, guy suckerpunched me and didn’t expect a comeback, he moved to block an uppercut and I turned it into an elbow cross and dropped him)
((it was mostly cause I grabbed his gf’s butt, which I should feel worse about but was masked by the joy of dropping his gym muscles, popped polo collar ass))
and even eye gouges and joint breaks we didn’t use in sparring
