The state’s had background meth or heroin problems since the 90s at least and criminalization didn’t particularly seem to fix them, the argument that the ability of courts to order people through treatment programs or serve as someone’s rock bottom isn’t worth the way it distorts things is worth entertaining, though I wonder if any “lessons from Oregon” will be distorted such that we have visible enough methhead and junkie communities that the backpressure on those drugs was less the specter of The Law than “ew, I don’t wanna be that”, anyway
