Huh this might be a generational thing! Like growing up in the 90s it was just background trivia that “-berg” or “-stein” suffixed last names were stereotypically Jewish, just like O’ or Mc prefixes signaled Irish

But this was kinda a residual knowledge re: midcentury “white ethnics”, I remember hearing about people not realizing that the late-90s wrestler “Goldberg” was Jewish despite that being a classically stereotypical name
