qanon is not a ARG, the only similarity and potential difference between a run of the mill conspiracy theory is that it started with someone posting on internet places that people who don't know anything about anything would consider to be underground and not well known. anyone comparing qanon to a ARG is a blow hard who's trying to make themselves sound intelligent and with it. Like go read the wikipedia and tell me that more than 5% of it applies to QAnon.

[2/2] I’ve read like 5 blog posts by absolute morons who tried to say QAnon was a ARG via an argument never goes past “it involves looking up information on the computer” and “at the beginning there was kind of an author with a creative vision”, the latter argument being completely discredited by the fact that “Q” completely lost control of the “game” within weeks, which is a thing those people would realize makes their comparison bunk if they weren’t so busy masturbating their brains in public

Well fuck you too anon, “making participants feel involved in something vast by using a computer to collate information based on faint and obscure linkages between not obviously related sources” is the core of an ARG, I don’t know what you’re on about

If we focus on the significance of “Q” “losing control”, or keyboard-based figures recoiling at recent physical rallies basically over same, maybe another gaming metaphor to consider is a tabletop RPG whose GM lost control of the campaign to clownish players (even while offering new hooks to get things moving)
