Every so often I think about how ridiculous it is that our national military HQ, The Pentagon, was built in the 1940s in the form of a star fort, but then I remember that time it was attacked and it actually held up a lot better than office buildings with a modern form factor

Oh wow it just now occurred to me why the building is short and wide. So it can take a hit without the entire building collapsing.

Well really cause they realized they needed it in WWII and the “only 4 stories, stone and not steel reinforced” war shortage design limitations created a solid fortress by accident
