I was ready to solo at 13 and nominally you had to be 16 but you could get a waiver but then the Jessica Dubroff thing and the FAA was on edge

Like, I can take-off and land a tricycle gear single piston-engined plane with no propeller pitch control under VFR, and navigate based on the other guy in the cockpit recognizing things, thats actually pretty limited

(but I can do that crabbing into a crosswind on a semi-improved ridgetop grass field)
