In today’s “VC money makes anything okay, I guess”, when exactly was it that “we sell you cheap Viagra on the internet without a doctor’s visit” become a legitimate business model? That was like the canonical internet sketchcase industry!

That was somehow less legitimate than the X10, the wireless camera transparently pitched for hidden camera voyeurism that sponsored the entire web for like 6 months when they invented pop-ups!

But now I see like, serious businesses advertising on legitimate platforms and they just… do it.

Is… is the “taming of the Internet” just going to mean we stop doing sketchy stuff until the reputation wears off and then go back to doing it in the open with $150m funding rounds?

hmm I haven’t seen much viagra spam for a while, why was that such a thing anyway, was it cheaper or just avoiding the hassle of admitting to a doctor that your dick doesn’t work or did people with fully functional dicks want it too?

on the VC thing, didn’t Juul get fifteen billion funding to sell bubblegum nicotine to kids?

Yeah I guess that is kinda comically leaning into it, huh
