1. They are suppressed by main force, which would either result in the start of the long-planned shooting war or the suppressing troops defecting to them, or
   
2. Existing governments convincingly crack down on antifascism, in the face of impending elections
   

I strongly expect they will attempt to seize control locally, purge their territories of what they take to be antifa, and begin to raise armies to retake the cities.

Everyone involved in leftist activism, known as leftists, media workers, nonprofit workers, visible minorities, as well as anyone who doesn’t want to be around for this, in the Northwest outside of the I-5 corridor from Seattle to Eugene should have supplies and plans to relocate to it, by multiple routes. Alternately, if you are east of Idaho, consider taking refuge with the Mormon Church.

Eastern Washington, rural Oregon, and Northern Idaho have well-developed alternative government structures already. Even in places where “oh those guys, but they don’t run things around here”, the people who “do” have strong professional networks, those guys have guns and training and can press that advantage. Spokane, Kalispell, Whitefish, Sandpoint, even at extremes Missoula and Bend may not be secure.

What, if anything, would clamp down on the insanity?

Because the response is deeply disconnected from what AntiFa is, and not even on a moral level but just on a basic what do people who call themselves AntiFa do and where do they go level. The idea of an transnational AntiFa preparing to assault the hinterlands is just not a thing that’s happening.

Frankly, even the idea of Portland as being caught in the grip of authoritarian AntiFa soldiers isn’t real either.

I’m not sure how you restore some level of sanity to the country.

Violence has already declined a great deal, and now most locations are seeing purely peaceful protests. And Fox News can’t keep running the same riot footage over and over again forever.

So the mythical Agents of Antifa aren’t going to invade the hinterlands of the Northwest, and the rural residents will eventually figure that out, and then some new bullshit thing will come along, probably to do with the election or North Korea or whatever. Sanity won’t be restored, but the lunacy will at least blunder off into a different and hopefully less bloody direction.

I am honestly baffled by the “nothing to see here, folks” tone – the Portland central courthouse is seiged every night and if it falls we’ll have a Batman-ass jailbreak; in Seattle there is territory held by anti-government forces.

And they aren’t calling in the national guard, they aren’t running raids to roll up leaders on incitement charges, they’re just gamely trying to hold it off day after day until, with Seattle, they fail. And then the locals are like “golly gosh, it sure is easier around here since we stopped trying to keep the anarchists from taking over”. It’s not unreasonable to see that as the cities falling!
