People have a weird tendency to assume that any word ending in -i must be a Latin plural, which is how you get people thinking the singular of ski must be skus, or the singular of ravioli must be raviolus, but it’s actually Italian, so the singular is ‘raviolo’ for a male and ‘raviole’ for a female.
Some people use ‘raviolo’ by default, because they mistakenly assume all ravioli are male, but in fact the vast majority are sterile females - the ravioli that you get in your typical grocery store are the workers that build and maintain the hive. Male ravioli are smaller, winged, and have very short lifespans, often only mating with the queen (or cacavelle) once before shriveling up into cappelletti.
