I moved on from that Hainish Cycle anthology I was reading to a collection of James Tiptree Jr. stories (who I have never read before). Here are my impressions from the first few:

  • “The Screwfly Solution”: this is the most harrowing, gut-wrenching work of fiction I’ve read in ages (granted I’m not a big horror fan). Reading it felt like being stabbed with a rusty knife made out of anger at the patriarchy. I almost do not want to recommend anyone read this due to the short-term psychological impact it had on me.   • “The Girl Who Was Plugged In”: literally a critique of 2019 Instagram influencer culture written in 1973. I am not joking. Borderline inexplicable but also obviously good
