Like, this is an age when the master narrative is data, when before history, philosophy or les belles lettres were important. Why does no one give a fuck what sociologists think?
Well part of it was, ironically, a lot of the reigning midcentury sociology was also derived from a circle called the “Chicago school” that seemed promising for the purposes of the social engineers of the government, academic, and family-fortune foundation elites of its day, but after a while you hit diminishing returns
