Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor in TERMINATOR: DARK FATE

It’s striking how ‘80s action movie heroines - Sarah Connor, Ellen Ripley, slasher “final girls” are mostly defined by a “welp, gotta deal with this” pragmatism.

I guess that’s a general theme of ‘80s movies - Die Hard is basically two hours of John McClane saying “welp, gotta deal with this”, but he was at least trained as a cop to begin with. The guys in Predator or Escape from NY or even Aliens were ‘Nam vets or standins, even Indiana Jones was a recognized professional going into the family business.

And Ellen Ripley’s basically a merchant marine, and the final girls were high school students, and Sarah Connor was a teenage waitress, and they’re all like “huh, apocalypse coming, guess I gotta be a badass now”
