All the “but why aren’t the Democrats impeaching Trump?!?” articles seem to come down to “they over-learned the lesson of 1998, where sympathy for the impeached helped his party make gains in Congress”, but ignore the lesson of 2006, where they offered the public no pressure-release from Dubya but “elect more Democrats” and in exchange the public did, enough to retake Congress
