The thing about Gulf War I was we had won the Cold War, and we won the Gulf War, so we got to celebrate the latter as if it had been a proper on-the-battlefield win of the former (in practice we hadn’t fought a battlefield war since the tie of Korea and planned the Fulda Gap as a fighting retreat)
