b/c the early colonies had laws requiring people to go to church armed in case of attack, cause the rivalrous local tribes, who weren’t idiots, realized “everyone in the settlement gathers in a flammable building on a predictable schedule” was a vulnerability
Taking your gun to church in case enemies show up to kill you is one of the oldest American traditions
