This has nothing to do with the joke but ever since I read it I’ve found it hilarious and I’ll take whatever flimsy excuse to share it.

This is an excerpt from a transcribed diary of Thomas Stafford Wollocombe, who served as an officer in the Great War. The diary entry is dated 25th January 1915.
