A few days ago I noticed a trash bag full of blankets just inside the fence in my backyard and I was like “uh, better put this aside for when the other shoe drops”
A few hours ago a homeless guy knocked on the door to my house, and I took him around and opened my garage and fetched them, and he offered to split them with me, earnestly asking if I too was homeless
Which might be an adaptive strategy for that guy engaging with new people but was a little weird in the moment
A minute ago he banged on my door until I opened up and asked for a ride like 90 blocks away, I sent him off, I do hope I haven’t started another Give A Mouse A Cookie cycle here, I’ve been through two already in Portland and one involved a crackhead digging a giant hole in our lawn overnight by way of apology for the camper shell full of loose clothes and probably stolen tools he’d started storing there
