Jon and Dany defeat the Night King at great cost, their ravaged armies are then routed by Cersei’s, who consolidates power on the basis of institutional advantage despite being semicompetent and unvirtuous. Jaime serves as her Hand who tries to hold things together but debts to the Iron Bank, the growing popularity of R’hllor, the Wildlings pushing south past the shattered Wall, and stirrings in Dorne augur more tough times to come.
