Fair, his regime was not “socialist-inclusive”, but neither was it really the ruling body of the entirety of China. When the Americans dealt with the regional Powers That Be they included Mao’s Communists, both in the “Second United Front” of WWII and afterward. A huge conservative issue of the ‘50s was “Who Lost China?”, and a common suggested answer was the State Department, by seeking to constrain Chiang and include Mao in postwar power-sharing, in hopes of modernizing China
