it’s goddamn late at night, i’m tired as hell, and it’s internet history lesson time.

everyone at some point in their lives has seen this image right?

this image is possibly the most iconic anime image ever. you see this? you instantly think of nightcore. it’s the official nightcore flag and for good reason too, as it is currently the thumbnail and background image for the first ever nightcore song uploaded to youtube, a nightcore-isation of Fantasy Project - Dam Dadi Do. The original upload of this song was in AMV form, but the audio was of poor quality. since then, the image is quite possibly the most widely used and recognised thumbnail for nightcore on youtube

as nightcore backgrounds generally are, this image was always left uncredited, without even a link to the place the image was found. Through my research I have uncovered the source and solved the age old mystery of “where the hell did that image of the anime girl dj come from” while also hopefully allowing the artist to finally be recognised for the mark he has unintentionally made in internet history.

The image originates from the Japanese visual novel Imitation Lover, first released for Windows computers in January of 2006. The game contains sexual content, so if you choose to do further research, do it at your own risk/pleasure. The character in the image is Kyou Ichinose, an outgoing and optimistic highschool student, DJ and waitress. Here is the image as it appears in-game.

The artist is Izumi Mahiru, and he has done stuff for visual novel games since 2000, with his most recent work in the genre being in 2016. you can follow him on twitter here if you’d like.

this was a bit of a weird long post but two of my favourite things are answering questions that people have had in the back of their mind but could never be bothered researching, and giving creditless creators of well-known illustrations their well deserved recognition. i’m tired and it’s time i sleep but please credit your artists properly and thank you very much.
