So I’ve thought for a while that Shirley Manson would be the celebrity death that made me feel irredeemably Old but it might have been this Nipsey Hussle, precisely cause he meant nothing to me

Like, when I was following music I didn’t follow rap but I picked things up through pop culture osmosis. Like, DMX, Lil’ Bow Wow, Chingy? If I ever heard one of their songs it was overheard and I didn’t know it was them, but if you mentioned their name I would be like “yes, that is a popular rapper”.

And even more recently, like, I couldn’t pick Migos or Cardi B’s faces or voices out of a lineup, but yes, I know they exist.

But this guy, who I’m told was something special on top of being a pop artist, total blank. Like not only do I not own his music, or listen to it, or recognize it; I’ve never heard him mentioned in a “these new trends” thinkpiece, or referenced to establish cred in the beginning of an article about streaming business models, or seen his name trending on twitter when he releases a new video, or on a music festival flyer as the third name on Day 2, or even seen a photo going around like “damn, Nipsey looking TIGHT at this awards ceremony”, or anything
