I remember when FOX started up, broadcasting Married With Children (message: post-‘60s liberties degraded the workaday man to allow his lessers to wallow in their unworthiness) and The Simpsons (message: working class families don’t stick together by performing bourgeois virtue but in spite of not) and this was taken as a bracingly vulgar stroke against cultural conservatism
